Contacts Lens vs Traditional Glasses

Get to Know Us

Some patients who would ordinarily wear eyeglasses would much rather wear contact lenses, which are more discreet and convenient. Are contact lenses truly better than glasses, though? This depends on many factors. At Southwood Eyecare in Southwest Calgary, our optometrist has years of experience helping patients decide between glasses and contact lenses. Our eye doctor will assess your vision to determine whether glasses or contacts are best for you.

Contacts Offer Versatility

Many athletes engaging in high contact sports do not consider glasses as a possibility for eye care because the risk of injury is too great. It only takes one hard hit to knock the eyewear off your face. Certain sports require special sports goggles to prevent injury due to broken glass. You may have to change from traditionally built glasses to eyewear that can accommodate your active lifestyle if you stay with eyeglasses. Contact lenses, on the other hand, offer versatility that lets you comfortably compete.

Eyeglasses Allow for Personal Expression

Some who choose traditional eyewear become creative by matching the frames of their glasses with their outfits. Contact lenses provide individuality in the sense of patients being able to choose between eye colors. The more modern approach to eye care, however, does not provide the same effect that comes when individuals see your uniquely styled frames.

Contacts are More Discrete

Some individuals wear contact lenses for years without their co-workers and friends knowing they have eyewear. Such discreteness is not possible with traditional eyeglasses.

Eyeglasses are ideal for those looking for more traditional eyewear. Contacts may be favored among those who want a more modern approach to treat their vision issues.
